As a renter, making sure your belongings are insured is vital. If the home or apartment you are renting gets hit with a disaster such as a fire or tornado, your belongings may not be covered by your landlord's insurance.
The Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID) has outlined the benefits of obtaining renters insurance.
"Renters insurance protects your personal property against damage or loss and also protects you in case someone is injured on the property because of your negligence," the OID shares.
The OID also stresses the importance of keeping a current home inventory. If you have to file a claim, you can easily show what contents you had before the loss. Here is a link to our free home inventory list: www.oid.ok.gov/home-inventory/.
