"Had I not asked I don't think we'd be here. "It was as simple as asking a few questions and learning about Down Payment Assistance," said Edgar.
With two active toddlers, Sydney and Edgar needed a home with plenty of room for their sons to play and grow.
"Our previous house had a small backyard with no grass," said Edgar. "There wasn't much room for them to play."
OHFA's 3.5% Homebuyer Down Payment Assistance and record-low interest rates created the perfect opportunity. Since Sydney teaches school, they obtained a special loan rate called OHFA 4Teachers.
"It was really surprising to have something dedicated to teachers," said Sydney. "It's nice to be appreciated and recognized."
The couple also wanted to move to Piedmont where they both graduated high school and Sydney serves as a teacher.
They found the perfect home with a huge backyard and an open floor plan, Javi, 2, and Cruz, 1, have plenty of room for active play. The family's dog, Zoey, also enjoys the extra space.
"We went to school in Piedmont. This house is super close to the boys' day care," said Sydney. "We love the community and we love where we are in town."
While some potential buyers may think buying a house is out of reach, Edgar suggests they ask about programs available that can make a mortgage more affordable.
